We have strict material-specific environmental requirements for our suppliers. We are constantly working to ensure that all materials used in our products are environmentally friendly and healthy. Our goal is to continuously develop the environment-friendliness of the materials used in our products, to ensure their safety for the user and their recyclability at the end of the product´s lifecycle.
The wood materials used in the products come from forests managed according to the principles of sustainable development. No protected wood species are used in the products. ISKU employs the certified tracking system for wood origin, PEFC (Chain of Custody).
The wood-based boards used in furniture (chipboard, MDF and HDF board, plywood and hardboard) meet the requirements of formaldehyde class E1, as defined in accordance with standard EN-120 or EN 717-1. Melamine-coated boards belong to construction material emission class M1, which indicates a low level of indoor air emissions (e.g. formaldehyde, VOC, ammonia, odours).
For surface treatment, we use 100% UV lacquers and water-based stains, lacquers and paints. As regards heavy metals, the pigments used in the stains meet the requirements in section 3 of the Toy standard EN 71. All surface materials treated with water-based and solvent-free varnishes meet the requirements of emission class M1 for construction materials, which indicates low levels of indoor air emissions (e.g., formaldehyde, VOC, ammonia, odours). Metal parts are powder-painted, so no solvent emission is generated in production.
The glues used in the assembly of furniture meet the European Commission’s recommendations for Green Public Procurement (GPP). The glues contain less than 10% by weight of volatile organic compounds.
Mainly steel and aluminium is used in our products, which are naturally recyclable. According to information received from the foundries, steel pipes contain 25 to 40 percent recycled material, depending on the thickness of the pipe. The recycling rate of aluminium is much higher.
We use more environmentally friendly trivalent chromium plating.
We have strict environmental and health requirements for textiles used in public premises. The amount of free or partially hydrolysable formaldehyde in the finished textile of our upholstery fabrics shall not exceed 300mg/kg (according to EN ISO 14184). DEHP, DBP or BBP pasticizers, which are harmful to reproduction, must not be intentionally added to fabrics. Our upholstery fabrics also do not contain halogenated flame retardants and have not been allowed to add azo dyes that can form carcinogenic acrylamines or dyes that are classified as carcinogenic. We use fireproof fabrics.
CFC, HCFC, HFC or methylene chloride, which are greenhouse gases that destroy the ozone layer, have not been used as blowing agents in the foam rubber included in our products. The foam rubber is CertiPUR-certified, indicating that the materials have been tested and have no excessive chemical concentrations hazardous to health or the environment. Our products contain PVC plastic in a few special cases, where its use is justified by the requirements of the part. PCS Plastics are not suitable for waste energy, as it contains chlorine. The plastic parts of our products do not include phthalates that are detrimental to reproduction, such as the softeners DEHP, DBP and BBP. All plastic parts over 50 g in weight carry the plastic recycling symbol in accordance with standard ISO 11469 or equivalent provisions. This is to ensure that the products are recycled as efficiently as possible at the end of their life span.
All the packaging materials are 100% recyclable as energy or material. Reusable packaging includes e.g. easy chair boxes and table corner protectors. All packaging materials can be separated without special tools. The products and packaging materials do not contain substances that would prevent recycling, such as chlorine-containing plastics. We take care of the utilixation of the packaging we supplu to the market in accordance with the law. In order to fulfil the recovery obligation, we have registered to the Packinging Environmental Register PYR (certificate no. 37177-19987).
