From Lahti with love – ISKU donates school furniture for people of determination

May 27, 2022. Written by Joonas Vikström @ Joonas Vikström

Finnish education system is well known for its inclusive and student centric approach in its pedagogy. Every student is an individual having their own needs to achieve the best learning outcomes. Some of the students are extroverts and some are introverts with very different preferences to digest new information. Also, the need for help and special attention differ a lot among the heterogenous student group in one classroom. This draws a lot of requirements for teaching, curriculum but also the learning environment when the plethora of preferences need to be optimized. This is where ISKU has performed well as a trailblazer with more than 60 years of experience in the specific market, especially in Finland.

Middle East is an area where the education systems collide. While the market is skewed towards the business hubs such as Dubai, Abu Dhabi or Riyadh it has attracted a lot of private schools with international curriculums, whereas British and American curriculums are dominating the market share. These schools are popular especially among the expat communities working with the growing business opportunities in the Middle East.

While the mainstream goes along with the international private schools, one of the growing education systems in the Middle East is the provision of education for people of determination. It is a very different education system from the private schools as it is an education system build on compassion and care rather than business. Inclusivity and equal opportunities are values making the foundation of a developed and modern society. United Arab Emirates introduced the first law to protect the rights of people of determination, Federal Law No. 29 of 2006, almost twenty years ago and ever since the conditions for the people of determination have improved.

ISKU has a strong agenda on responsibility from a holistic point of view. As a part of ISKU’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives, ISKU cooperated together with Dubai Cares, a civil society organization formally associated with the United Nations Department of Global Communications, to donate furniture for enhanced and healthy learning environments at Senses Residential and Day Care for Special Needs. This is a great way of delivering the strategic agenda of ISKU in terms of CSR with the best in line education products for learning spaces, a hundred workstations with antimicrobial ISKU+ chairs and desks. The donation improves the ergonomics via the thought through design and mitigates the infection risk via ISKU+ technology. The donation represents the best ISKU can offer, and it was addressed for the people who need it the most.
